George was one of nine children, born in Orange county virginia in 1711 and died in 1792.  He was narried twice and from these marriages came thirteen sons who served in the revolutionary war, and held various offices of import of the government.  He is described as a broad minded, public spirited, and active citizen.  He was Justice of the peace, magistrate, and clerk of Orange County Virginia. Burgess of Orange County, and on the Virginia Committee in 1775.

The Taylors had many homes His was known first as Colina, then Middleburn, then Midland, this home then was renamed to Ashland, but is presently called Yottan.  This home was situated between the two his father had, Bloomsbury and Greensfield.  In those days family was very important and most  homes were in line of site.  On important days or family days a flag was hoisted as an invitation to join in dinner, or celebration.
